Oyo Police Arrest 10 Over Alleged Document Forgery Syndicate

Date:

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in connection with an alleged syndicate involved in the forgery of official documents, stamps, and certificates belonging to government agencies, private organisations, and financial institutions.

The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit during a coordinated operation at a hideout in the Ogunpa area of Ibadan, following what the police described as sustained intelligence gathering and community support.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the operation was triggered after credible intelligence indicated that a group was operating from the area, producing and distributing fake official documents for criminal use.

The suspects arrested include Mumini Akanbi, Quadri Muhammed, Salami Tajudeen, Oladipupo Hammed, and Oladipupo Taiwo.

Others include Olorun Sebi Kazem, Fatai Akanni, Alamu Kazeem, Olalekan Afeez, and Alex Olanrewaju.

According to the police spokesperson, search warrants were executed at the suspects’ operational bases, where officers reportedly recovered several items, including fake Police Character Certificates, Nigeria Police Force CID stamps, Ogun State CID Eleweran office stamps, Iyaganku Area Command stamps, and various official stamps belonging to ministries, departments, banks, and private organisations.

Olayinka added that preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were part of a well-organised network engaged in impersonation and other fraudulent activities using forged documents.

He further stated that all the suspects have confessed to their involvement and are currently assisting investigators with useful information as the probe continues.
