The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that eight political associations have successfully completed the initial stage of registration as political parties, while six others were disqualified.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday following the commission’s regular meeting held on October 30, 2025.
Olumekun said the meeting reviewed progress since the last update issued on September 11. According to him, 14 associations had been pre-qualified to proceed in the registration process, which officially began with a briefing session on September 17.
He explained that the dedicated online portal for uploading required documents was open from September 18 to October 18. By October 19, eight associations had successfully submitted all necessary information and documentation.
“As of Saturday, October 19, 2025, eight out of the 14 pre-qualified associations successfully completed the upload of all necessary information and documentation,” the statement read.
The qualified associations include the All Democratic Alliance, Citizens Democratic Alliance, Abundance Social Party, African Alliance Party, Democratic Leadership Alliance, Green Future Party, National Democratic Party, and Peoples Freedom Party.
Olumekun said the next phase will involve a detailed verification and assessment of the submitted documents to ensure compliance with constitutional and legal provisions.
“This stage will ensure conformity with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties (2022),” he stated.
He reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic culture.
According to the commission, a total of 171 associations initially expressed interest in becoming political parties before the current screening and verification process began.
