PDP suspends Ifeanyi Ubah over alleged anti-party moves
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday slammed a one-month suspension on one of its aspirants for the Anambra State governorship election, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.
Shortly after Uba’s suspension, the Alliance for Democracy (AD) also announced the suspension of five of its National Working Committee (NWC) members over alleged anti-party activities.
AD’s decision was taken during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting presided over by its national chairman, Chief Joseph Avazi.
The suspended members are Ismail Ayodele (national auditor), Nola Morufat Olayinka (spokesperson), Akin Fashogbon (secretary) as well as David Achinge and Otumba Onayemi.
On its part, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said while briefing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, that Ubah had launched a major attack in the media on the leadership of the party over the Anambra election.
“Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah has not been satisfied with the decision of the governorship appeal panel and decided to launch a rhetoric attack on the leadership of the party and those who were involved in the conduct of the primary.
“The national caretaker committee took a decision to issue him a query, asking him to retract the statement and to offer apology to those who have been disparaged by his remarks in the press.
“He chose not to answer the query, of course the query was issued under relevant sections of the Constitution of the PDP. But he decided not to answer the query consequent upon which the national caretaker committee today decided to suspend him for a period of one month and to refer the matter to the national disciplinary committee for further necessary action.
“Number two is Senator Buruji Kashamu’s case. He too was issued a query by the national caretaker committee some weeks ago. In his own case, he replied the query and denied some of the allegations made against him basically saying that he was not responsible for some of those things for which he was accused.
“The national caretaker committee also took a decision to refer his case to the national disciplinary committee for further necessary action. The national disciplinary committee is expected to report back on their findings to us within the next two weeks regarding that case,” he said.
AD had also in a communiqué issued at the end of its NEC meeting signed by its acting national secretary, also set up a disciplinary committee to investigate the five officers who met recently in Abuja and announced the suspension of the party’s national chairman, Chief Joseph Avazi.
