Police make major arrest of bandits in Sokoto

At a news conference in Sokoto on Monday, Deputy Inspector General for Police Operations Ahmed Zaki said Hashim had been arrested along with 36 others.

Some of the suspects included Musa Kamarawa, Bammi Kiruwa, Zayyanu Abdullahi, Hardo Yunusa, and Samuel Chinedu, among others.
According to the DIG, the arrests were made between January 20 and 29.

“Between January 20 and 29, Nigeria Police Operation Sahara Storm identified and raided bandit camps in Illela, Rabah, Isa and Goronyo local government areas of Sokoto state.

“During the operations, the police arrested no less than 37 suspects at different locations and a number of exhibits were recovered.

“All the suspects were linked to the notorious gang leader, Turji, and all have confessed their complicity in the crime of banditry.

“However, the investigation of their cases is still ongoing and the suspects will be charged in court as soon as the investigation is completed,” he said.

Speaking to Premium Times when they paraded before the journalist on Monday night in Sokoto, Turji’s doctor said that while he was in his patent shop, one of the arrested suspects, Musa Kamarawa, invited him to the bush to treat Turji and others. bandits wounded by soldiers.

He said: “He took me to Turji’s camp in the bush and I treated the bandit leader for the gunshot wound he sustained to the head. That was the first time I met him. It was three years ago.

“From then on, I kept helping them while some of them even came to town for treatment or (to) buy medicine, especially pentazocine injections,” he said.
The police paraded another suspected drug supplier to the bandits, Samuel Chinedu.

Chinedu told reporters that he collected N18, 500 for each of the pentazocine injections he sold to bandits.

Police said he was arrested in a hotel room in the Sokoto metropolis while waiting for his money after providing drugs and other essentials to bandits.
