Police nabs suspected cultist member for killing a police, Injuring other

The Akwa Ibom Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist member for killing a police sergeant, Victor Akpan, and injuring one Samuel Solomon, also a police sergeant.

The victims were all attached to Ikot Ekpene Divisional Headquarters.

It was learnt that on October 8, 2017 at about 0730hrs, a case of assault/malicious damage was reported against the said suspect, Aniebiet Uko ‘m’ 35 years of age by his father, Mr. Peter Uko ‘m’ at 1, Okon Nko Street, Ikot Ekpene.

The suspect was said to have tied his mother outside their compound.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bala Elkana, DSP, said in Uyo on Thursday that a team of police investigators drafted to the scene were ambushed by the suspect and members of his gang.

Elkana pointed out that while Sergeant Victor Akpan was killed Sergeant Samuel Solomon sustained injury, noting that the injured policeman is responding to treatment.

“The suspect has been arrested and he has owned up to the crimes before the Commissioner of Police. The Homicide section of the State Criminal Intelligent Investigation Department is investigating the case.

“The suspect will be charged to court for murder, assault, wounding and malicious damage,” the state police spokesman added.

Meanwhile, the State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old man, Emmanuel Eyo, ‘m’ for alleged forgery, obtaining money under false pretence and impersonation.

Eyo, who hails from Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, was said to have been arrested at Utimanik Hotel, Grace Bill Road, Eket for forgery.

He said, “The suspect posed as Spy Assistant Commissioner, collected the sum N5 million from a contractor in Rock Marine Company at Oron under the guise of providing them with security personnel but absconded.

“In the cause of investigation, the following items were found in the suspect possession; 23 fake spy police shirts and 20 trousers, 25 police belts, 27 lanyards, three fake SPO’s identity cards, three white berets, six caps, badges, nine black berets, one officer’s shoe and three fake Inspectors’ identity cards.”

Elkana stated that investigation also revealed that the suspect was a former spy officer for an oil firm, adding that the case would be charged to court soon.
