Police releases report on Osun guber electionsPolice say they have yet to receive any reports of violence or vote-buying in Saturday’s Osun gubernatorial election.

Mr. Johnson Kokumo, Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) said this after a visit to Salvation Army Alekuwodo Voting Unit Ward 5, Unit 5 in Osogbo.

Kokumo said that security agencies have made efforts to ensure the peaceful conduct of the elections.

He did say, however, that security agents had made some arrests in the course of the elections.

“Those who have violated election laws have been addressed,” he said.

He said that investigations will be carried out on the detainees for new actions.

The Nigerian News Agency reports that the police deployed 21,000 troops to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.

Also speaking, Mr. Dauda Mungadi, Deputy Commander General (DCG) of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in charge of Operations, said after a visit to Unit 2 of Ward 7 Isale Osun, that he had sanity and order in most voting units in the state.

Mungadi said that although the election was still ongoing, the body had received no reports of major problems with the destruction of the voting process.

He said NSCDC staff were positioned to observe voting units and arrest suspected vote buyers or people intent on disrupting the election.

He expressed satisfaction with the large voter turnout at the voting units.

The DCG advised residents to continue behaving peacefully, as it described the election as “not a matter of life and death.” “There can only be one winner, so let him cast his votes and let his votes count,” he said.
