The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has launched a free medical outreach for residents of Agboyi Ori Omi, a remote riverine community in Lagos State’s Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area.
Held on Monday, the initiative was organized in partnership with Lagos State Health District II and the Taiwan Root Medical Peace Corps, providing essential healthcare services to communities with limited access to medical care.
Services offered included oral health checks, blood pressure monitoring, TB and eye screening, free glasses, blood sugar tests, HIV testing and counselling, treatment of minor ailments, and free medications.
Represented at the event by Lagos State Assembly member Desmond Elliot, Gbajabiamila emphasized that health remains a priority for grassroots communities. “The tests are done here, and on-the-spot treatment is available. We want people to take advantage of this opportunity,” he said.
The outreach is part of a broader program by Gbajabiamila to improve healthcare access in underserved areas across Lagos, with similar initiatives planned in Masksra Ketu and Ikorodu over the coming days.
Tajudeen Abass, Special Adviser on Budget and Finance to the Speaker of the House, praised Gbajabiamila for his commitment to improving access to healthcare. He said the program demonstrates a long-standing dedication to impacting lives through healthcare, education, and empowerment.
Dr. Dayo Lajide, Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District II, noted that the outreach was critical for Agboyi Ori Omi, home to over 41,000 residents, and highlighted the provision of obstetrics, gynaecology, dental, and eye care services.
Agboyi-Ketu LCDA Chairman, Mrs. Adetola Abubakar, commended Gbajabiamila and the Taiwan Root Medical Peace Corps for bringing quality healthcare to a hard-to-reach community and improving residents’ quality of life.
The outreach reflects a collaborative effort between the federal government, state authorities, and international partners to expand equitable access to healthcare, particularly for marginalized communities.
Gbajabiamila reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across Nigeria, emphasizing that such interventions are essential for enhancing overall wellbeing and community development.
