KWHA summons Commissioners, 2 others over financial reports

Date:

The Kwara State House of Assembly has directed  the State Commissioners for Finance and Economic Planning, Accountant- General and Auditor- General to appear before its Public Account Committee (PAC)to explain non release of budgetary provisions to the office of the state Auditor – General thereby incapacitating it from performing its  functions as enshrined in the nation’s constitution.

The House took the decision following the motion raised by the chairman Public Account Committee and member representing Owode/Onire Constituency Hon Abdul Rasheed Taiwo Abdullahi on the inability of the office of the state Auditor General to submit audited reports of the State’s finances for year 2015.

Reading the resolutions of the House, the Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad said the constitution empowers the legislature to look into the audited reports of the State, six months after the preceding year and said the House was resolute in raising the bar of good governance in the state through accountability and transparency

The Speaker who said the 8th Legislature under his watch was determined to give its best in the task of ensuring good governance, observed that the office of Auditor General was nine months behind schedule.

He added that  this had affected the transparency template of the House in the task of raising the bar of good governance in the State.

Dr. Ahmad said in view of this, the House would be interested in finding out who and what were responsible for the inability of the office of the state Auditory General to perform its constitutional functions.
