Psychiatric Hospital boss, Shehu Sale bags award of excellence
The Sokoto State Development Forum (SSDF), an NGO, has conferred an award of excellence on Dr Shehu Sale, Medical Director, Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH) Kware in the state.
Presenting the award on Monday, the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Bashar Umar-Binji, said it was in recognition of Sale’s achievement in transforming the hospital.
Umar-Binji said the hospital was in poor condition faced with enormous challenges before Dr Sale’s stewardship and now transformed to a center of excellence during his tenure in office.
He noted that Sale ensured infrastructural uplifts, workers welfare and facilitated the employment of more required medical and auxiliary workers for optimal performance.
According to him, the development has led to influx of patients from within and outside the country.
”More importantly, Dr Sale engaged actively in community and humanity development activities in the hospital community, Kware LGA, Sokoto state and Nigeria at large.
”The Forum deem it fit to recognize him for the award of Fellowship of Sokoto State Development Forum (FSSDF) to reciprocate his achievements within the hospital and other services to the country,” Umai-Binji said.
In his remarks, Alhaji Bello Garba, a FNPH Board member, described the award as encoraging, adding that the board was not surprised by the award.
Garba commended the organisation for the recognition, saying it would spur the Medical Director to do more.
In their separate remarks, the National President of Association of Psychiatric Nurses of Nigeria (APNON), Sani Haruna and Abdullahi Ibrahim Alwasa, the branch chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), commended Sale for his open door policy in running the hospital.
The union leaders stressed that the Medical Director has ensured industrial harmony in the hospital and was transparent in all his dealings in running the facility.
Responding, Sale expressed appreciation for the recognition and pledged more commitment to improve the hospital services.
Sale, an Associate Professor and a Master Trainer of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), commended the association for their foresight, noting that the award would motivate him to more.
The Medical Director, also a Consultant Psychiatrist, called on people to access the facility and cautioned them against seeking alternative therapy and patronising unprofessional healers.
He said accessing mental health at an early stage helps to solve the health challenge, adding that the hospital was one of the eight psychiatric hospitals being funded by the Federal Government.
