Release fund for flood victims, Senator Buba urges Gov. Bala Mohammed

Bala Mohammed
The Chairman of Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Shehu Umar Buba, has urged the Bauchi State governor, Senator Bala Mohammed to swiftly access the N3 billion earmarked by the Federal Government for flood disaster relief to states so as to alleviate the sufferings of victims in the state.
The fund, approved by the National Economic Council and allocated by the Federal Government, is specifically intended to assist victims of natural disasters like the recent flooding across the country.
In a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja on Sunday, Senator Buba, therefore, called for urgent and swift actions to alleviate the suffering of those affected in the state, noting that the release and proper allocation of the funds could significantly impact the lives of countless individuals affected by the flood.
He expressed deep sorrow over the devastating flooding that recently ravaged communities in Bauchi State, particularly in Fadaman Mada, where widespread damage to homes and property were reported.
In response to the disaster, the lawmaker said he donated N10 million and 500 bags of rice to five local government areas affected by flooding in the state, including Katagum, Giade, Jamma’are, Zaki, and Darazo Local Government Areas which received N2 million and 100 bags of rice each.
Condoling the affected families, Senator Buba emphasized the urgent need for immediate attention to the disaster’s impact, saying: “I received the news of the unfortunate incident with sadness, and I pray that Allah grants the victims the strength to endure this loss.”
The N3billion palliative for flood victims was disclosed recently at the National Economic Council meeting chaired by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima and attended by governors and deputy governors from across the country as well as some ministers in Abuja where the co-chair of the Bills and Belinda Gates Foundation, Bills Gate and the President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote were also present to make presentations.
Briefing State House Correspondents shortly after the meeting, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State said some states in the North were worst affected by the flood with lives lost and properties destroyed.
