Reps probe disbursement of N450bn amnesty fund
The House of Representatives yesterday beamed its torchlight into the alleged disbursement of N450billion meant for amnesty programme.
The investigation into the fraud, followed alleged infractions in the procurement process adopted by the Presidential Amnesty Committee set up by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua in 2009.
The investigation carried out by the House of the Representatives Joint Committee on Procurement and that of Niger Delta Affairs, is to look at the level of achievement and the disbursement.
The motion to investigate this development was brought before the House by Hon Solomon Naren from Plateau State.
The joint committee led by Hon Oluwole Oke (PDP, Osun), while questioning the former Director in charge of Procurement in the Amnesty Office, Durojaiyeola Tikolo, noted that some of the companies engaged for the job did not meet the requirement needed to carry out such contracts.
He said: “According to reports we got from the Office of Accountant-General of the Federation, the sum of N450bn has been expended on the amnesty programme and we are asking as to whether all that was done was in line with the Procurement Act.
