The VC, while speaking with journalists in Ilorin said that the welfare of the staff is always uppermost in his mind and he would continue to explore legitimate ways of enhancing it.

Reacting to the  stoppage of the Responsibility and Field Trip Allowances for staff, the Vice-Chancellor said that the decision was not his own making, adding that he only acted on the directive from the Federal Government.

He appealed to all the employees of the University to bear with his administration on the development, adding that the issue was beyond the control of the University management.

On the rumour making the rounds on campus that he had promised to refund the stopped allowances by July this year, Prof. Abdulkareem vehemently denied ever making such promise, explaining that what he said at a recent meeting between management and staff union officials was that the authority would find a means of compensating the University workers, who, he said, have remained loyal and committed to the Unilorin spirit over the years. He said he told the union leaders that such compensation does not necessarily have to come in December; it could be in October or thereabout. He disclosed that leaders of the various staff unions on campus would soon be meeting with the Governing Council of the University to discuss welfare matters that will put smiles on the faces of the workers. READ ALSO:Nigeria To Transport 30Million Tons Of Cargoes Annually By Rail—FG
