Robbers kill police officer in attempted bank robbery in Ekiti

A police officer was killed after some robbers tried robbing a commercial bank in Otun Ekiti in Moba local government area of Ekiti state.

The state police spokesperson Sunday Abutu said the incident occurred on Thursday July 1, at about five in the evening.

The group of armed men stormed the Otun bank and initially succeeded in breaking the bank security door before their mission was thwarted by the swift arrival of a combined team of police, military, and local security outfits.

This led to a shootout and death of the policeman as the robbers escaped on foot. Abutu stated that perpetrators of the crime will be tracked and arrested.
