The Lagos State High Court sitting at Igbosere on Monday revoked the bail granted a physically-challenged, Uchenna Isaac, charged with armed robbery, for jumping bail.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo revoked the bail after a surety, Abduraheem Razak, an ex-Police officer, declined to continue as a surety for the accused.

Isaac is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

The Lagos State Prosecutor, Mr R. O. Aroyewun, ‎said the accused committed the offence on June 23, 2012 at about 10.39 a.m. at Abraham Adesanya Estate, Ajah,Lagos.

He said the accused while armed with a gun, robbed the complainant, Adeyemi Adedotun, of his Toyota Corolla car (2000 model) with registration no. LSD 807 AA‎.

Aroyewun added that the accused also stole a Nokia phone, a BlackBerry phone, a wallet, a driver’s licence, an ATM card, a dairy and N35,000.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 295 (1) and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Monday, the judge revoked the accused’s bail, saying he has jumped bail.

She noted that the accused had stopped ‎coming to court since March.

“He was absent during court proceedings especially on May 20 and June 19 until I issued a bench warrant against him.”

The judge, however, ordered the two sureties — Razak and Chinyere Isaac (the accused’s sister) — to appear before her and queried why they failed to produce the accused in court at the last adjournment.

The sureties claimed that the accused was ill.

Razak immediately informed the court that he would no longer stand as a surety for the accused because he did not trust him any longer.

‎The judge revoked his bail and ordered that he should be remanded in prison until the determination of the case or pending when he was able to produce a second surety.

The case was adjourned until Sept. 21 for continuation of trial. (NAN)
