Salesgirl in court for allegedly stealing N275,000 recharge cards

A 28-year-old salesgirl, Vivian Bernard, on Thursday appeared before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing her employer’s recharge cards worth N275,000.

The defendant, who resides at Karshi area of Kaduna, is facing a two-count charge of breach of trust and theft.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at 3.00 p.m. on May 27, at Sabon Tasha, Kaduna.

Leo said that the defendant, who had been employed by the complainant, Mr David Williams, for five months, stole recharge cards of various telecommunication networks given to her to sell.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant was given recharge cards worth N1.2 million to sell and she stole N275,000 worth of the goods, sold them and converted the proceeds to her personal use.

The prosecutor added that the defendant lied that she lost the goods.

Leo told the court that the offences contravened Sections 243 and 271 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Emmanuel held that the surety should be gainfully employed and show evidence of three years’ tax payment to Kaduna State Government.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 16 for hearing.
