Samklef Accuses Davido Of Fueling Industry Toxicity

Date:

Music producer Samklef has accused Afrobeats star Davido of driving rivalry and toxic behaviour in Nigeria’s music industry, alleging that unhealthy competition intensified after the singer rose to prominence.

Samklef made the claim while reacting to a social media post by producer-turned-singer Pheelz, who lamented what he described as excessive comparisons and negativity within the industry.

“Music was meant to be enjoyed, not to be compared. This comparison game is hurting the sound and culture more than we can ever know,” Pheelz wrote.

In response, Samklef argued that the industry was marked by mutual respect during the early rise of artistes such as Wizkid and Olamide, before Davido joined the mainstream.

According to him, Davido’s entry coincided with increased rivalry, alleging the emergence of threats, a “cultist mindset” and streaming manipulation, claims he did not substantiate.

“Music was fun when we started. When Wizkid came, there was no comparison—everything was pure love,” Samklef wrote. “Olamide came too, same thing. No pressure, no hatred, just music.”

He added that the industry later became hostile, describing what he called “fake streams and dirty moves everywhere” following Davido’s rise.

Samklef’s remarks triggered mixed reactions online, with several users criticising him for singling out Davido and blaming one artiste for broader industry challenges.

As of the time of filing this report, Davido had not responded publicly to the allegations.
