Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has donated books to the management of the University of Ilorin library being the largest so far in the annal of the current administration to further add more values to learning.
The Head of the Department of Islamic Law, Prof. Abdulrasaq Alaro, who facilitated the books’ donation, pointed out that whenever a window of opportunity opens, he would try his best to ensure that the University benefits maximally.
He also assured the University that this will not be the last gesture from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, adding that many more will come as time goes on.
Prof. Alaro added that the University of Ilorin is a marketable product, which makes it easier for her to have an edge over other universities across Nigeria.
According to the don, he uninterrupted academic calendar of the University of Ilorin and its being the most subscribed University in the country are among many other advantages that Unilorin has over its peers in the country.
In his remarks, while receiving the books on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, the University Librarian, Prof. Abdulwahab O. Issa, thanked the facilitator and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for finding the Unilorin Library worthy of the donations.
While expressing his delight on the donation, the Vice-Chancellor expressed the hope that other individuals and corporate organisations will emulate the example of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by offering various forms of assistance to the University.
He said that such interventions are corporate social responsibilities expected of them.
The Vice-Chancellor assured the facilitator and the donor that the materials will be put to effective use and for the promotion of learning and human capital development.
Prof. Abdulkareem, who described the donation as a “spectacular contribution”, assured that the University will show its appreciation by forwarding a letter conveying such to the Saudi Arabia Embassy in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the donation, which comprises 142 titles, 76 volumes on 20 different subject areas, is the largest single donation his administration has received since he took over.
He pointed out that the magnitude of the donation was as good as those coming from TETFund.
Among those that witnessed the donation were the Acquisition Manager of the University Library, Mrs. Ogundipe; the Electronic Librarian, Mrs. Adebisi Adeshina; Mr. Oni, the Technical Service Librarian, Federal University of Technology, Akure; the Head of the Administrative Unit of the Library, Mrs. Nndom; the Head of the Circulation Unit, Mr. Saliu and several staff members of the University Library.
