Science, technology critical in fighting corruption-- Onu
The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has said Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) is a critical in the fight against corruption.

The Minister stated this at the annual national space dialogue and media conference on space science and technology organised by the National Space Research and Development Agency ( NASRDA) in Abuja.

According to Dr. Onu, intelligence gathering as well as timely administration of justice, which are very important in the fight against corruption, require Science and Technology, and the dialogue theme: “Potency of space dependent technologies in driving good governance and eliminating corruption in post covid-19 era” is most appropriate.

“Space science and satellite technology have played a critical role in intelligence gathering and mobile telecommunication, among many other vital areas. These represent the essential tools needed in the fight against corruption.

“Space science has played very important role in virtually all aspects of fighting corruption. I am confident that this conference will come up with the new areas where space science and technology will be further applied in combating corruption in the country.”

FCT minister, Mohammed Bello, who was represented by Engr. Jatto Abdulkareem noted that the conference e is not only apt but in line with current covid situation.

He also said it is in tandem with the Buhari administration policy in the fight against corruption pointing out that it is no secret that corruption is a global menace that kills the economy of nations and can only be tackled with advancement in space science and technology.

The Acting DG of NASRDA, Dr. Francis Dubem Chizea said contrary to the opinion of critics on the agency, it would not relent its oars in training and retaining her scientists and engineers not just to acquire degrees and certificates but to focus on acquiring knowledge that are predicated on solvng cutting edge research problems for the overall socio-economicelopement of the nation.

Aappreciating the relevance of the theme of the conference became necessary especially at a time when most nations of the world are gradually recovering from the devastating effect of the Covid-19, hence the need to appraise the technologies dynamism and efficiency of space science and technology to promote good governance as well as curb corruption given its critical role in modern society.

He also said the forum is a veritable platform for crucial deliberations that will further push forward and narratives to underscore the significance of Nigerian space programme towards realizing a national dream particularly at this critical moment in global history.
