Senate confirms appointment of FIRS, AMCON bosses

Senate, has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Muhammad Nami as the executive chairman of the newly reconstituted board of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.

The upper legislative chamber also approved the appointment of Mr. Edward Adamu as the new chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON.

Confirmation of the FIRS board chairman and members followed the consideration and approval of the report of the Senate Committee on Finance, presented at plenary by its chairman, Senator Solomon Adeola (APC Lagos West).

The FIRS board was dissolved in 2012 and the executive chairmen appointed since then have been running the agency without a board.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in a letter dated December 9, asked the Senate to confirm the appointment of Nami from the North Central geo-political zone, as the executive chairman and 13 others as members of the revenue generating agency.

The members include James Ayuba (North Central); Ado Danjuma (North West); Adam Mohammed (North East); Ikeme Osakwe (South East); Adewale Ogunyomade (South West); and Ehile Aibangbee (South South);

Other members of the board appointed from the ministries agencies and departments of federal government are, Ladidi Mohammed (Attorney General of the Federation Office); Godwin Emefiele (Central Bank of Nigeria); Fatima Hayatu (Ministry of Finance); Maagbe Adaa (Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission); Umar Ajiya (Nigerian National Petroleum Commission); DCG T. M. Isah (Nigeria Customs Service) and the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC.

Similarly, the confirmation of the appointment of the AMCON chairman followed the considered the report of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, presented by its chairman, Senator Uba Sani (APC Kaduna Central).
