Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed Affirms Loyalty To Labour Party

Date:

Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed has reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party (LP), insisting he remains loyal to the platform that nominated him as the vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

Baba-Ahmed, 56, was the running mate of Peter Obi in the last presidential contest, which the LP candidate lost to Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Since the election, Obi left the Labour Party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which now serves as the base for a coalition aiming to challenge the APC in the 2027 general elections.

During a press briefing at the LP national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, Baba-Ahmed stated that he would not follow Obi to the ADC.

The former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna North, said he is prepared to serve the nation ahead of 2027, focusing on contributing to Nigeria’s recovery and development.

He expressed skepticism about the ADC, describing those behind the coalition as “disgruntled politicians” and saying he does not share confidence in the party.

Baba-Ahmed’s remarks underscore a clear division within the political landscape as parties and coalitions position themselves for the next general elections.

The senator’s loyalty to the Labour Party highlights his intention to continue his political journey on the platform that brought him to national prominence.

Political analysts say such declarations could influence voter alignment and candidate selection in the upcoming polls.

As the 2027 elections approach, the LP and its members are expected to consolidate their strategies while navigating defections and coalition-building across the country.
