Senator Moro to Atiku: You Held PDP Hostage, Now We’re Free

Date:

Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, has thrown a political bombshell, declaring that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will rise stronger ahead of the 2027 elections with or without Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa.

In a blunt and unapologetic interview on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, Moro dismissed the duo’s recent departure from the party as “good riddance to bad rubbish,” accusing them of being architects of the PDP’s post-2023 internal turmoil.

“They created the problems that fractured this party after the 2023 elections. Their exit is a relief,” he said.

According to Moro, the internal disunity and weakening of party structures that followed the last election were largely due to their divisive influence. But despite the turbulence, he insists the PDP remains intact and battle-ready.

Moro believes the party now has a rare opportunity to rebuild, away from the baggage of failed ambitions and power tussles.

He also fired a warning shot at any plans to field another northern presidential candidate in 2027, urging strict adherence to Nigeria’s unwritten North-South power rotation.

“The country already rejected a North-to-North transition when Atiku tried to succeed Buhari,” he said, reiterating that power must shift southwards if Nigeria’s unity must hold.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s opposition landscape is undergoing a major reshuffle.

A new coalition anchored on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has emerged, drawing together major political players Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and others in a bid to challenge the APC’s dominance in 2027.

Despite this, Moro is unfazed.

“The PDP has faced storms before. We’ll reorganize, realign, and come back even stronger,” he said.

His message to loyalists? Stay focused. Don’t be distracted by political tourism or desperate alliances.

As the PDP repositions itself, it’s clear the gloves are off—and the 2027 race is already heating up.
