Popular Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has made a U-turn on his previous statement claiming that Nigeria is safer than it was 10 years ago. His original comment, made on the Honest Bunch podcast, sparked widespread criticism amid rising terrorism and kidnapping across the country.
Seyi Law’s remarks drew backlash online, with many Nigerians accusing him of downplaying security challenges due to his close support for President Bola Tinubu. Critics argued that his statement was out of touch with the harsh realities facing citizens.
In an apology video shared on Instagram, Seyi Law described his comment as insensitive, acknowledging that it could hurt those who have experienced kidnapping or lost relatives to violence. He emphasized his willingness to admit mistakes and apologize sincerely.
“My fellow Nigerians, I owe you this & more. I’m sincerely sorry for such an insensitive statement… I want to sincerely and unreservedly tender an apology to those that statement has hurt,” he said, stressing his regret over the impact of his words.
He further called on President Tinubu to take the security of Nigerians more seriously, urging stronger measures to protect citizens and address the ongoing threats of terrorism and kidnapping nationwide.
