Former Senator Shehu Sani has described President Bola Tinubu’s directive to withdraw police officers from VIP protection as a “good idea and a positive policy statement,” citing the nation’s urgent security challenges.
Speaking on Sunday, Sani, however, expressed concern that the initiative might remain only on paper without proper implementation.
President Tinubu ordered the withdrawal of all police officers assigned to VIPs, stating that individuals requiring security can now seek protection from the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps.
In addition, Tinubu approved the recruitment of 30,000 new security personnel to strengthen nationwide safety.
Sani welcomed the move in principle but stressed that the success of such a policy depends on effective execution rather than mere announcement.
