The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has advised students to always watch out for standard while purchasing goods and getting services in the Nigerian markets.

Mr Sunday Yashim, the SON State Coordinator, gave this advice on Thursday at a public sensitisation and campaign in some secondary schools in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The campaign is to promote “Zero-Tolerance to Substandard Products”.

Mr Busayo Adeyemi, the Head, Public Awareness Unit of the organisation, stressed the need to always check for NIS inscription, which was a mark of quality of any product from the organisation.

According to him, the campaign is designed to intimate students on the functions and activities of SON.

He also advised them to avoid any product without the label that contains the name, production date, expiry date and the company or producers of such product.

Adeyemi explained that any product with the organisation’s quality mark must have conformed to the requirement of the organisation.

He said that SON always embarked on constant market survey to take samples in order to ensure that manufacturers sustain the required standard.

Schools visited were Offa Grammar School, St. Claires Secondary School, Ansar-Ud-Deen College and Okin High School.

The campaign also featured a drama presentation by members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
