The One Nigeria Youths Initiative, an NGO has said that sports in Nigeria is growing under the leadership of the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung.
Coordinator of the group, Pastor Magnus Oku, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, commended Dalung for introducing a practical approach to sports admiration in Nigeria.
He said that Dalung’s acumen was demonstrated in the recently concluded sports federation elections.
According the coordinator, the passion, hard work and good team spirit existing at present in the sport federations is worthy of emulation.
“ He came in that with positive energy and passion; and indeed we can say as a nation, that we have recorded very significant and landmark trophies in sports in recent time.
“Within two years, a huge portion of great talent around Nigeria has been discovered and the country is making waves in various sporting activities.
“We recall the victory of our gallant basketball team D’Tigers who conquered all to become African best, how our wrestlers made us proud at the Olympics.
“Nigeria suddenly became scrabble world champion for the First time in history; the performance of our U17 and U23 teams is also in reckoning,’’ he said.
Oku said that Nigeria has an abundance of talents and needed a leader like Dalung to harness the talents and bring about the desired transformation in the sports sector.
