The Kwara State Government has commissioned a newly renovated six-room office space dedicated to supporting the activities of the State AIDS and STIs Control Programme (SASCP) and the Society for Family Health (SFH), as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen HIV/AIDS response in the state.
The renovation, carried out through the Global Fund GC7 N-THRIP Grant and implemented by SFH in partnership with the Kwara State Ministry of Health, marks a significant milestone in the state’s journey toward HIV epidemic control.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, described the development as a strategic move to enhance coordination and effectiveness of the state’s HIV interventions.
“This facility provides a more enabling environment for our health workers and reflects our unwavering commitment to achieving sustainable progress in HIV control,” El-Imam said.
She praised the synergy between the Ministry of Health, SFH, and other stakeholders, reaffirming the government’s dedication to building infrastructure that supports public health outcomes.
The Team Lead of SFH, Dr. Owen Omede, expressed deep appreciation to the Commissioner for her support and commitment.
“This achievement is a testament to our collective dedication to ending the HIV epidemic. The renovated space will serve as a hub for our prevention, treatment, and support initiatives,” Omede said.
He also acknowledged the role of the Director of Public Health and the entire SASCP team in driving the state’s HIV control efforts forward.
The newly upgraded office will enhance operational efficiency and coordination across HIV-related programmes, positioning Kwara State as a strong player in Nigeria’s national HIV response strategy.
