Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho), has sparked widespread reactions after he was seen wearing a fez cap displaying the logo of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at a social function in Ibadan.
Igboho attended the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rasheed Ladoja’s first Ramadan lecture after his coronation, where he was captured in a viral video greeting the monarch and the guest lecturer while wearing the APC-branded cap.
The image quickly generated online debate, with social media users drawing comparisons between Igboho and other separatist figures, including Nnamdi Kanu, and questioning his political stance in light of his earlier activism for Yoruba self-determination.
Some commentators criticised the development, arguing that aligning with a ruling party contradicts his campaign against perceived marginalisation, while others defended him, noting that he recently returned to Nigeria after intervention by traditional rulers and political stakeholders.
Igboho’s spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, had earlier stated that arrangements for his return had been concluded after prominent monarchs reportedly persuaded the Presidency to remove his name from the wanted list, adding that he may return to the country fully reintegrated following clearance.
