Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo- Agege has described the declaration of Senator Hope Uzodinma as the new governor of Imo State, as victory for democracy.

In a congratulatory message which he personally signed, Omo-Agege, congratulated the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate in the 2019 Imo governorship election, saying the judgment has affirmed that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man.

According to him, light will always prevail over darkness, no matter how long it takes.

Omo-Agege, who doubles as South-South APC leader said, “I join millions of Nigerians in congratulating you on your well-deserved electoral victory at the Supreme Court.

“Your victory and that of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) is a clear indication that no matter how long it takes, light will always prevail over darkness.

“By reclaiming Imo State, I am optimistic that our party, the APC, will clinch more states not only in the South East geopolitical zone but also in the South-South in the 2023 governorship elections.”

He commended Uzodinma for his steadfastness and unshaken belief in the judiciary, charging him to be focused in taking Imo State to the next level of economic prosperity in line with President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s agenda.

The Supreme Court had yesterday sacked Emeka Ihedioha of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP as governor of Imo State, affirming Uzodinma, the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate as winner of the March 9 election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had declared Ihedioha winner of the election but Uzodinma, who came fourth, challenged the outcome of the election in court.

In a unanimous decision, a seven-man panel led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun held that Ihedioha did not win majority of votes cast in the election and ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Ihedioha and give a fresh one to his APC rival.
