Reality TV personality Anita Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has publicly criticised Nigerian youths for what she described as their unwillingness to actively participate in the nation’s socio-political struggles.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the former Big Brother Naija star lamented that today’s generation is more concerned with personal comfort, social media trends, and opportunities to leave the country (“japa”) rather than engaging in efforts to improve Nigeria.
“Listen, my generation of Nigerians are the dumbest and most cowardly,” Tacha wrote. “Funny how we blame the ones before us for ruining Nigeria. Ex-president Buhari in his 20s was part of a coup fighting for what he believed in.”
She expressed disappointment that young people today are largely disconnected from activism, contrasting them with past generations who risked their lives for political change. “What are today’s 20-year-olds up to? Japa,” she added, stressing that this mindset reflects a generational failure to secure a better future for Nigeria.
Tacha also addressed critics who questioned her contribution to national development, saying: “Y’all ask ‘what have you done?’ I used my voice. I speak, I show up, I refuse to be quiet.”
She clarified that her comments were not directed at any individual but at the broader youth culture she believes prioritises comfort and internet fame over meaningful engagement in national issues.
Her remarks have since stirred debate online, with some agreeing with her perspective while others questioned the tone and fairness of her criticism.
