    A group, Bauchi Patriots, has accused Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed of secretly seeking admission into the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite publicly projecting opposition politics, alleging he is using political alliances to pressure the ruling party for renewed negotiations.

    In a statement, the group claimed Mohammed’s reported outreach to APC leaders and his meeting with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi were part of a strategy to boost his bargaining power and secure entry into the ruling party on his own terms.

    The group also questioned the governor’s claim of being a “freelance politician,” describing it as contradictory and a sign of political uncertainty, while urging opposition figures, including Obi, to be cautious in dealings with him.

    However, Governor Mohammed, while hosting Obi and South-East stakeholders in Bauchi, dismissed partisan interpretations of the meeting, saying it focused on national unity, political cooperation and possible future realignments rather than party defections.

    Obi also denied any defection talks, stressing the engagement was aimed at building national consensus and collaboration, while both leaders maintained their discussions were centred on strengthening opposition cooperation and promoting a better Nigeria.

    Bauchi Assembly Committee Rejects Oversight Failure Claims

    The Public Accounts Committee of the Bauchi State House of Assembly has dismissed claims that it is failing in its oversight responsibilities, describing the allegations as false.

    Committee Chairman Hon. Mubarak Haruna (Jama’are Constituency) made the clarification during a media briefing at the Assembly complex on Friday.

    Haruna also stressed that he is not a member of the ruling PDP and has no intention of joining the party, accusing some individuals of spreading politically motivated falsehoods to discredit the state government, Governor Bala Mohammed, and the Committee.

    He rejected claims that the Committee ignored audit queries from the Auditor-General’s report, describing such reports as misleading.

    Since assuming office, the Committee has carried out its constitutional duties diligently, Haruna said, including visiting relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) and reviewing official records.

    The Committee has strengthened accountability through audit reviews, investigations into financial irregularities in MDAs and local councils, public hearings, and monitoring of audit recommendations.

    It has also conducted budget defence exercises for the Offices of the Auditor-General for State and Local Governments, ensuring all audit queries and observations in the 2024 Auditor-General’s report were properly addressed.

    Haruna emphasized that the Assembly operates with due process and transparency, noting that credible audits must follow legal procedures and official channels, and any documents circulated outside these channels should be regarded as speculation.

    He added that the Assembly has enacted laws to improve financial management and oversight, with members committed to serving citizens with integrity, independence, and without executive interference.

    A senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure, Muhammadu Abdullahi Sugar, has called on the governors of Bauchi and Zamfara States to resist pressures to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

    Speaking in Kano, Sugar warned that alleged attempts by the APC-led federal government to coerce opposition governors could undermine Nigeria’s democratic system.

    He specifically urged Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed and Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Dare to remain committed to the PDP, emphasizing the importance of respecting the mandate given by voters.

    Sugar noted that recent defections by elected officials have raised concerns about political intimidation and the erosion of democratic values.

    He argued that switching to the ruling party would not address the country’s pressing challenges, and suggested that some governors who had defected did so under undue pressure.

    Acknowledging that the PDP had lost members to defections, Sugar insisted that such movements would not weaken the party’s resolve ahead of the 2027 general elections.

    He expressed confidence that the performance of PDP governors, particularly in northern states, would enhance the party’s credibility and restore public trust.

    Sugar stressed that political loyalty and adherence to electoral mandates are critical for strengthening democracy and countering perceived manipulations by the ruling party.

    The PDP chieftain concluded that sustaining opposition unity is essential for promoting accountable governance and providing Nigerians with credible alternatives.

    The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has cautioned its personnel against engaging in political activities, warning that such conduct is incompatible with the values and discipline of the military profession.

    Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Usman Abdullahi, Air Officer Commanding, Special Operations Command, Bauchi, gave the warning over the weekend during the 2025 annual 10-kilometre walk and jog exercise organised by the NAF.

    He reminded officers to remain apolitical and loyal to the nation and its leadership. “You must remain apolitical. Don’t involve yourselves in any political activities and do not involve yourselves in activity that is inimical to the calling of our military profession. I urge you to remain loyal to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the President and Commander-in-Chief,” Abdullahi said.

    The AVM emphasised that physical fitness is central to the Air Force’s operational readiness, noting that the exercise was aimed at enhancing cohesion, alertness, and mental sharpness among personnel. He also commended the Bauchi State Government for its cooperation and support toward the activities of the force.

    In his remarks, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Auwal Jatau, praised the discipline and determination demonstrated by the participants, describing the exercise as more than a fitness event but a “celebration of unity and shared purpose.”

    He highlighted the synergy between the NAF, other security agencies, and the state government, noting that such collaboration has been key to maintaining peace and security in Bauchi. “The Special Operations Command and other formations have played a vital role in maintaining the relative peace and security our people enjoy today,” he said.

    The event featured officers from the Air Force, other security and paramilitary agencies, and NYSC members. At least 32 participants received prizes for outstanding performance in various categories.

    Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has declared support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, saying the move was based on collective sacrifice and unity within the party.

    Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, said he personally stepped down his presidential ambition to allow the party sustain its zoning arrangement.

    Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the governor noted that he was fully involved in the deliberations that led to the decision.

    “I’m very satisfied with the resolution because I’m part of it, from the arrangement, strategy, and delivery,” Mohammed said.

    According to him, the decision was taken at the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, where party leaders agreed to maintain the existing zoning formula for offices and assign the presidential ticket to the South-South region.

    He stressed that the arrangement was necessary to foster “sanity, understanding, and unity” in the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

    Mohammed urged Nigerians to view politics beyond personal ambition, emphasizing that leadership must be guided by sacrifice, inclusiveness, and national development.

    “Politics is not about personal interest, it’s about self-actualization within the framework of party decisions, manifesto, and national development. Power comes from God,” he said.

    The governor added that PDP governors, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the Board of Trustees (BoT) remain committed to ensuring the party offers a credible platform for Nigerians to pursue their political aspirations.

    Supreme Court affirms election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as Governor of Lagos State.

    Justice Garba Lawal who read the lead judgment dismissed the appeal filed by Mr Rhodes-Vivour.

    He held that the deputy governor was duly qualified to contest the election.

    Similarly, Governor Bala Mohammed’s election in Bauchi as also been affirmed by Supreme Court.

    The apex court affirmed the decision of the Court of Appeal and dismissed the appeal by Sadique Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress for lacking in merit.

    The appellate court had in November affirmed the victory of Governor Bala Mohammed in the March 18 governorship election.

    This followed earlier judgement by the tribunal upholding Mohammed’s victory.

    In the Court of Appeal judgement, the panel of three justices were unanimous, awarding no cost as the court ruled that each party to the matter should bear their costs.

    The presiding judge, Justice Chidi Nwaoma Uwa, read the judgment in the order of the appellant’s plea before the appeal court.

    On plea number one, the appellant had pleaded that the election be nullified because the forms and booklets used in the election were not properly filled. The court ruled that the appellant failed to prove this allegation with the needed evidence.

    In the same vein, the supreme court has also certified the election of Abba Yusuf as Kano state governor.

    A five-member panel of the apex court held that the tribunal and the court of appeal erred by sacking Yusuf, candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), as governor of the state.

    About N44 million has been approved by the Bauchi State Government for the 2023 Annual Livestock Mass Vaccination Campaign across the 20 local government areas of the state.

    The State Governor, Bala Mohammed, stated this in his speech at the launch of the exercise which held on Monday at Kangere in Bauchi LGA.

    He said that his administration sustained the Annual Livestock Vaccination Campaign since it came on board because of its importance in preventing animal disease outbreaks and making animal production in the state disease free and profitable.

    According to him, “Annual Vaccines Provide immunity against major Transboundary Animal Disease (TADS) for a period of one year. This necessitates the need for the annual ritual of vaccinating our animals.

    “For the year 2023, I gave approval for the release of the sum of N44 million to the Ministry of Agriculture for the conduct of the vaccinating campaign across the state.

    “As an improvement in the exercise, New Cattle Disease (CD-12) vaccine has been added to the two major vaccines normally administered in the state (i.e. Contagious Bovie Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) and Pestes de Pestes Ruminanciumk (PPR). The newly introduced NCD-12 vaccine is to be administered to local chickens belonging to our rural people in order to prevent losses being incurred annually due to New Castle Disease.

    “So far, one million doses (10,000 vials) of CBPP vaccine for Cattle, 500,000 doses (500) Viais) of PPR vaccine for sheep and goat and 400,000 doses (2,000 vials) of NCD-12 vaccine for poultry have been procured and ready to be administered to three (3) categories of animals across the 20 local government areas of the state,” he said.

    Mohammed who called on the staff of the Ministry of Agriculture involved in the vaccination exercise to remain committed and ensure that all nooks and crannies of the state are adequately covered, urged the benefiting stakeholders to cooperate with the staff by massively bringing out their animals to be vaccinated.

    He said that the role of the livestock subsector in the provision of protein and economic empowerment had made it necessary to improve and strengthen veterinary services in the state.

    He pledged to build a befitting modern veterinary specialist clinic at Ran Road, in the Bauchi metropolis with a view to improving efficient and effective delivery in veterinary services, and to have a referral veterinary facility that would serve the people and generate revenue to the state.

    The governor added, “The contract has been awarded, site for the construction has been formally handed over to the contractor and mobilisation funds will be made available to the contracting firm to ensure commencement of work on the project immediately.

    “Furthermore, since last year, approval has also been granted for the employment of 40 veterinary medical students of Bauchi State origin who have already been appointed and started getting their monthly salaries.

    “We decided to sustain the Veterinary Medical Students Employment Scheme we inherited from the previous administrations despite paucity of funds due to the pivotal role the scheme plays in the area of providing wholesome animal products, jobs and wealth creation as well as food security and safety.”

    Students offering medical and health courses in Bauchi State will henceforth enjoy automatic employment after graduation in the state.

    Gov. Bala Mohammed announced the scheme on Thursday in Bauchi while inaugurating two newly constructed primary healthcare centres in Gidan Dubu and Fadamamada communities in Bauchi metropolis.

    He said that the two health facilities were constructed with development partners like the UNICEF, European Union (EU) and USAID.

    “As a measure to maintain the major optimum requirements to the healthcare profession in the state, this administration has reintroduced the pre service scheme where students offering medical and health courses are given automatic employment.

    “That is our health students, the midwives and the nurses that are in our tertiary institutions,” he said.

    According to him, government placed a high premium on healthcare delivery as it believed in the saying that ‘health is wealth and a healthy society is a productive society’.”

    He said for this reason, his administration had been trying to address the challenges of the health sector, especially in the areas of service delivery, infrastructure and human resource development.

    “Consequently, since the inception of this administration, we have been able to construct four general hospitals where there were none as well as 15 primary healthcare centres.

    “We have also renovated and equipped 10 secondary and 10 primary health facilities across the state.

    “These are in addition to the 107 and 204 primary and secondary health facilities, renovated and upgraded through the support of EU, UNICEF and NSHIP projects respectively,” he said.

    Mohammed assured the people of the state that all developmental projects started by this administration would be completed within the remaining life span of his administration.

    Also, the Bauchi state Commissioner for Health, Mr Sabiu Gwalabe, lauded the governor for the high priority given to the health sector in the state.

    He added that within the past three years of the present administration, laudable projects and programmes had been initiated and accomplished.

    The commissioner called on the benefiting communities to appreciate the present government for making their decade long dreams a reality.

    Mr Oluseyi Olusehinde, Health Specialist from UNICEF, said that the organization had been enjoying partnership with the Bauchi State Government.

    He said “in addition to the contribution you are making yearly to this PHC MoU, we are glad to say that every year, you are adding new structures, new primary health care centres to the number of primary healthcare centres in Bauchi State.

    “We are also grateful to say that by the beginning of your administration, there were some wards in Bauchi without PHC centres but as at now, we are glad to say that you have covered all those wards.

    The state government, on Nov. 17, allocated N30.5 billion to the state Ministry of Health out of the N202 billion 2023 budget presented by the governor to the state House of Assembly for approval.

    NBA lauds Bala Mohammed for signing judiciary autonomy bill into law


    The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Bauchi state chapter, has lauded Gov. Bala Mohammed for signing a bill into law giving the legislature and judiciary financial autonomy.

    This is contained in a statement signed by the state Chairman, Mr Jubrin Sa’id in Bauchi on Friday.

    Mohammed on Aug. 5, 2022, signed 11 other bills into law.

    Sa’id said the signing represents a watershed event in the annals of judicial service and the wider interest of justice in the state.

    He commended the Executive, Legislative and Judicial arms of government along with other stakeholders for rising to the occasion by making sure ‘the unique’ piece of legislation is in fruition, thereby setting the stage for the much needed financial independence for the judicial arm of the government.

    Sa’id also called on judges at all levels and other personnel in the justice sector to regard the development as a call for higher service, selflessness and dedication to duty.

    He added that the society would be more interested in monitoring the performance of the judicial actors especially, from the lenses of the kind of judgments they turn in as a mirror of their integrity, fear of God and promotion of the law.

    “The point is therefore stressed that while financial independence and satisfaction is critical to a smooth, effective and justice dispensing system, the integrity, good reputation and fear of the Almighty God are by far more important.

    “On our part, the bar will continue to work closely with other stakeholders in ensuring that there is a corresponding immediate implementation of the law so that unlike some states, we will be seen to be walking the talk as far as practical implementation of the law is concerned,” he said.

    While signing the bills, on Mohammed said that the law repealed the Bauchi State Separation of Account Judiciary Law 2019.

    “This law will, among other things, ensure that allocation meant to each arm of the state government on the Consolidated Statutory Revenue Fund are promptly paid into the designated account of each arm based on the appropriation of the state for each year,” the governor said.
