Davido Shifts Focus Away from Western Awards

Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he is shifting his focus away from Western recognition, including the Grammys, to concentrate on creating music that is authentically African. Speaking on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi, he emphasized that he is satisfied with his career achievements and is now prioritizing his roots.

Davido highlighted his global accomplishments, noting that he has performed worldwide, sold out arenas, and received multiple Grammy nominations over the past three years. Despite these accolades, he said he no longer feels the need to pursue Western sounds or validation in his music.

“This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena, I have been to three Grammys in the last three years. The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African,” he stated, signaling a return to the distinct sound that originally defined his artistry.

The singer also praised his South African fanbase, claiming that approximately 80 percent of the country’s citizens know and enjoy his music. Over the years, he has collaborated with several South African artists and has received multiple industry certifications from the country.

Davido Thanks Father After DNA Paternity Controversy

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has publicly expressed gratitude to his father, Dr Adedeji Adeleke, following a press conference that addressed the recent DNA paternity controversy involving the singer.

Davido shared a photo of himself with his billionaire father on his Instagram story on Thursday, showing both men smiling. He captioned the post, “Thank you my loving Father,” alongside heart and praying hands emojis.

The message came shortly after Dr Adeleke spoke to the media to respond to allegations surrounding the paternity of a child, an issue that has generated widespread attention and debate on social media in recent weeks.

Reports indicate that Davido has consistently denied fathering a young girl identified as Anuoluwapo. The child’s mother, Ayo Labinjoh, has repeatedly called for a DNA test to establish paternity.

The controversy has continued to trend online, drawing reactions from fans and commentators, despite the singer’s repeated denials.

Neither Davido nor his family disclosed further details on the matter following the press conference.

Davido Not Father of Aanu, Says DNA — Father

Dr. Deji Adeleke, father of Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said DNA tests have confirmed that his son is not the biological father of a girl, Aanu, who has been at the centre of a long-running paternity dispute.

Speaking to journalists at his Lagos residence on Wednesday, the businessman said multiple DNA tests conducted at hospitals in Lagos showed zero probability of paternity. He explained that the matter first came to his attention in 2014, following a letter from a lawyer alleging that Davido had fathered a child with a woman, Ayo Labinjoh.

Adeleke said three DNA tests were carried out on Davido, two of which returned negative results, while a third was declared inconclusive due to contamination. Additional tests were also conducted on Davido’s cousin, Adebayo Adeleke, known as B-Red, to rule out mistaken identity, and those results were also negative. “I want more grandchildren, but there is science — DNA. If science confirms you are my granddaughter, I will gladly accept you,” he said.

Despite the outcome, Adeleke said he had supported the education of the girl and her mother for some time. The controversy resurfaced in January 2025 after a social media post claimed the child was being bullied and called for another DNA test, a claim Davido publicly rejected, insisting that all tests conducted had proven he was not the father.
