AfCFTA Can Boost Competitiveness of Women-Led Businesses — Oye

The immediate past chairman of the Organised Private Sector of Nigeria and 22nd national president of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Dele Kelvin Oye, has stressed that empowering women-led enterprises under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework is critical to unlocking Africa’s economic potential.

Speaking at a forum hosted by Zenforte and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Abuja, Oye described women-owned businesses—estimated to account for 40 per cent of enterprises across the continent—as an underutilized driver of growth, innovation, and job creation.

“Women-led enterprises are not just an essential part of the continent’s economy; they represent a profound opportunity for growth and innovation,” he said.

Oye explained that AfCFTA offers women-led businesses new opportunities through expanded markets, increased competitiveness, and improved economic outcomes. “By dismantling trade barriers and promoting economic integration, AfCFTA can empower women-led businesses to tap into new markets and significantly contribute to Africa’s economic growth,” he added.

He, however, pointed out the persistent challenges facing women entrepreneurs, including limited access to finance, weak market access, and inadequate skills development. According to him, these barriers make it difficult for women-led firms to navigate complex trade regulations and achieve their full potential.

Oye also expressed concern over broader economic policies, urging the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to reverse its decision not to honour $2.4 billion in forward contracts. He warned that the move could trigger more litigation and impose additional financial burdens on businesses already struggling with currency depreciation and rising debt costs.

The former NACCIMA president emphasized the need for stronger partnerships between governments, financial institutions, and the private sector to boost women’s access to finance, market entry, and capacity-building programmes.

“By encouraging economic integration and providing targeted support, we can not only unlock the potential of women-led businesses but also drive Africa’s wider developmental ambitions,” he concluded.

NACCIMA President, Dele Oye passes vote of confidence on KAM Steel products

The National President of Nigeria Chambers of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture, (NACCIMA), Mr. Dele Kelvin Oye, has expressed satisfaction over the excellence performances of KAM Steel Integrated Company Limited, (KSICL), in the manufacturing sector.

The NACCIMA boss stated this when he led some members of the association on an industrial inspection to KAM Steel factory in Sagamu, Ogun State, ROYAL NEWS reports.

He noted that KAM Steel Integrated Company Limited has become an household name and trusted brand as regards to iron, steel and other allied products across the nation stressing that NACCIMA is convinced with such patriotic and excellent performances of the founder of the company over the years.

Mr. Oye however commended the Group Managing Director/CEO, KAM Holding Limited, Dr. Kamoru Yusuf MON, for his commitments to nation-building and ensuring that qualities and standards are adequately maintained in a bid to further promoting the backward integration policy of the federal government.

He also applauded the company’s diligence and consistency in the use of modern technologies and expertise in its production processes and thereby passed a vote of confidence on the management of the firm.

In his remarks, Dr. Yusuf thanked the team for the visit and informed them that his business orientation is to build the nation’s economy, support humanity as well as to project the image of Nigeria positively through production of quality products that can compete favourably globally.

He therefore assured the leadership of NACCIMA of his continuous supports in order to achieve more for the nation .

PIB’ll reform oil & Gas sector, attract foreign investors– New NACCIMA boss, Udeagbala

Newly elected president of NACCIMA Ide JC Udeagbala has welcomed the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill which has been before the National Assembly for over 18 years.

In his remarks Udeagbala expressed the hope that the passage of the Bill will bring the much awaited and needed reform of the Nigerian oil & Gas sector for improved involvement of the Nigerian Private sector in the oil&Gas sector and improve confidence of foreign investors who have complained of lack of clear appropiate legal framework in the Nigerian oil and Gas sector.

The NACCIMA National President also said all stakeholders must now work concertedly to ensure that Bill will improve the life of the host oil community, ensure sustainable development of the environment in the oil producing areas. He was of the view that while the passage of the Bill was a big relief its faithful, transparent implementation was key to ensure its desired objectives.

He reassured that NACCIMA which has been involved and closely followed the process of passage of the Bill will work with all stakeholders to ensure the radical changes contained in the Bill are effective and the Bill becomes an historic legal framework for the transformation of the oil sector with positive effect on the nation economy, the energy sector and expands employment opportunities and well being of the people.

COVID-19: Message from NACCIMA National President to members

My dear Chambers members, as the Corona Virus (COVID-19) global Pandemic enters a new and critical phase across the world, I wish to let you all know that you are on my mind. First, I will like to appeal to all of us to adhere strictly to the recommended safety measures to preserve our lives. At this period, we must take all precautionary measures to stay safe and alive during this period of global and national health crisis. Only then can we be there when the crisis is over to rebuild our lives and businesses.

I understand the immense psychological trauma we are all going through. But we must stay calm and be resolute in the fight to overcome the virus. At this period it is very important to keep to following safety measures as widely advised by the WHO and Nigerian Health Authorities:
1. Stay at Home.
2. Wash hands regularly with Water and Soap.
3. Maintain Physical distancing.
4. Adhere to our advice of our National and State health Authorities.
5. Share only useful and CREDIBLE information and support each other.

I want to use this opportunity to commend Federal and State Authorities on steps being taken to control and reduce the spread of the virus across the country and cooperation with the rest of the international community to end this Pandemic. We also note the recent setting up of the stimulus package by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and its setting up of the Nigerian Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19. This private Sector Coalition is designed to mobilise private sector resources, increase general public awareness and secure the buy-in of the private sector to support government efforts. It is however necessary to make this Private Sector Coalition more inclusive and embrace the entire Organised Private Sector of Nigeria.

We must also continue to work at the State level, through our City and State Chambers, to deal with the crisis and make our own contribution to the fight against the spread of the disease no matter how little.

As the search for an enduring solution continues, we are encouraged by the various clinical trials including the Clinical Solidarity Trials in Norway announced by the WHO. We sincerely hope these clinical trials for a vaccine will yield the desired results.

For emphasis, I implore all NACCIMA members to practice social distancing effectively at this time, as this is the surest way to curb the spread of COVID-19 virus.

Finally, as the DG of the WHO recently said, “we must continue the fight, we must unite and ignite the industrial might… to stop the disease” and I add we must continue this fight and win it, to rebuild our lives and subsequently our businesses.

We will triumph and God will see us through.
