Three killed in Edo by suspected cultists



Three people have been reportedly killed on Sunday night in Benin, Edo State in clashes between rival cult groups in the state.

Not less than 29 people including a journalist with the Independent Radio and Television Station and vigilante heads have been killed during a bloody cult war between members of the Black Axe and their rival Supreme Eiye confraternity in the State.

The cultists had clashed during the Yuletide season, the renewed clash is also between the Black Axe and Supreme Eiye cult groups.

One of the victims known as Ariba was killed inside his room, after leaving his doors open after getting himself drunk and another identified as Denco was killed at a drinking spot at Igun junction by Igbesanwan, Oza street off Sokponba Road in Benin.

According to a source, the development led to the killing of the third victim at 2nd East Circular area same Sunday night, bringing the total number of casualties to three, it would be recalled again that a man was shot dead inside his car along Upper Siluko Road by Textile Mill junction by suspected cultists who information revealed are hell-bent in avenging the death of their members during last December killings.

The Spokesperson of the Police Command in Edo State, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, was contacted and said he is yet to be briefed on the incidents.

He further stressed that, “I would not be able to make a statement I don’t know about, since I have not gotten any reports from the crime scene. Whatever I would say will be from the report that is coming from that place.”
