Experts have hailed President Bola Tinubu for his plan to rejig the Nigeria Police Force with the establishment of police formations in the marine economy and solid mineral sectors.

According to Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu has planned to rejig Nigeria’s police architecture.

He also noted that, “the President mentioned three new police formations to augment the regular police and the deployment of forest guards also considered, with standard and effective training, modern technological gadgets and weapons to strengthen security, in his statement, the solid mineral and marine economy sectors would also be secured by special police.”

Onanuga referenced Mr. President to have said, “We have a big marine economy, and I do not see why we should not have the marine police. We will have the same (police) in solid minerals to keep the scavengers away. My administration is ready to invest in security.”

“We will buy our own minerals and keep them in reserves, especially gold, which will be effective in our foreign exchange reserve, said this to the governors,”

He also said, “I am happy that he did not say he will use the military to handle that. Mentioning the police makes me rebuild my confidence in it because he is not bringing the military in internal security matters. The current police force needs a total overhauling to take out the bad ones and retain the good ones.

Security Expert reacts, Dr Kabir Adamu, appreciated the President for engaging the police and not the military for the service in the internal security and ensure that the police reforms that were started by his predecessor are concluded.

Mr. Nnamdi Chive, a national security analyst, urged the President to equip and fund the existing structure with the security forces so as to ensure more productivity in the nation’s security.
