President Bola Tinubu has nominated Mr. Ikechukwu Ugwuegede as the South-East representative on the board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Ugwuegede, a lawyer and politician, previously served as Chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) between 2011 and 2015. He also contested to represent Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives during the 2019 general election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tinubu’s latest nomination follows criticism over an earlier NCC board list sent to the Senate, which excluded a representative from the South-East region.
In a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Wednesday’s plenary, Tinubu urged the Senate to confirm Ugwuegede’s appointment promptly.
The letter partly read: “While it is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominees in the usual expeditious manner, please accept, distinguished senators and distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.”
Other members of the NCC board earlier confirmed by the Senate include Idris Olorunnimbe (Chairman, South-West), Aminu Maida (Executive Vice-Chairman, North-West), Abraham Oshadami (Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, North-Central), and Rimini Makama (Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, North-East).
Also on the board are Hajia Maryam Bayi, Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (rtd), Senator Lekan Mustapha (South-West), Chris Okorie (South-South), and Princess Oforitsenere Emiko (Commissioner, South-South).
