Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to various countries and international missions, comprising 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career appointees.
According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the appointments follow the Senate’s confirmation of the nominees in December 2025. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun the process of obtaining agrément from host countries ahead of the envoys’ deployment.
Among the notable non-career ambassadors are Reno Omokri, who has been posted to Mexico; Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany; Mahmood Yakubu to Qatar; and Ita Enang to South Africa.
Other non-career appointments include Aminu Dalhatu as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Olufemi Pedro to Australia, Ayodele Oke to France, and Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The Presidency said the ambassadors-designate will assume their duties after completing the mandatory induction programme once agrément is secured from their host countries. It added that approvals have already been received from the United Kingdom for Dalhatu and from France for Oke, while nominations of the remaining envoys are awaiting confirmation.
