TRIBUTE…..Mustapha Akanbi’s death, end of an era

Date:

Late Justice Mustapha Akanbi (rtd)

By Idris Haroon

Late Justice Muhammad Mustapha Adebayo Akanbi (rtd, CFR) was adjudged internationally as an incorruptible judge known for altruism and absolutism throughout his life time.
He belongs to the three types of judges described by Allah thus;

1. The judge who posses no knowledge but was influenced by corrupt acts among other social vices.

2. The judge who gives no justice, equity and fairness to the people.

3. The judge that was not appointed by any influence which therefore made him to be incorruptible.

While the latter will be granted the favour of Almighty Allah and admitted into paradise , the two former shall be seriously dealt with and admitted into the hell fire.

He stands out to be courageous, patriotic and God fearing elder statesman. He was a reformer of note even though, he found himself in a society where decency, honour and piety are accorded little or no
recognition.

His unique qualities made him to excel in life as he was discovered by men of wisdom and integrity. His life was such an exemplary, emulative
and educative to others especially generations yet unborn.

The late jurist showed the whole universe the exceptional qualities of esteemed great reformer whose footprint that can never be erased. He
left uncontestable legacies and challenges for his contemporaries in all ramifications.

At the rounding point of his life , just like Imam Ghazali, late Mustapha Akanbi committed all his time to God but moulding foundations, constructing mosques and libraries . He was able to give his best to his Creator and humanity.

He is an illustrious son of Ilorin Emirate, Nigeria, West Africa and world in general. The entire humanity will surely miss him. He will be
remembered in the history of the contemporary world, may Allah place him in the abode of firdaos.

Justice Idris Abdullahi Haroon, a retired Grand Khadi of the Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal and Chief Imam of Jamatul Nairul Islam
Central Mosque, Ilorin, writes from Casablanca, Morocco.
