Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, under Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled an ambush by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters in Borno State, killing one insurgent and recovering arms.
The incident occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday when soldiers made contact with the attackers during a military operation, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Makama, who disclosed the development in a post on X, said the troops opened fire after coming under threat, forcing the insurgents to flee the area in disarray.
A subsequent search of the location led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, a magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
One terrorist was neutralised in the exchange, while no casualties were recorded on the side of the military.
The troops reportedly expended 47 rounds of ammunition during the operation as efforts to degrade insurgent activities in the North East continue.
