Two suspected armed robbers; Jerry Chuckwedu, 23, and Tomiwa Olawale, 22, have been arrested
by the men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly dispossessing a gold merchant of chains and rings valued at N6m at gunpoint.

The suspects were arrested on Monday following a report lodged at the Ogijo Divisional Headquarters in the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state by one Abubakar Hassan.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Oyeyemi said the complainant reported that his brother sent him from Idi-Araba in Mushin Lagos State to deliver some gold chains and rings worth N6m to his customer at the Igbo Olomu area of Isawo in Sagamu.

The PPRO added that Hassan narrated that when he got to Isawo, the said customer, who was already waiting for him, picked him on a motorcycle and took him to a deserted area, where three others were met and they dispossessed him of the jewellery at gunpoint after beating him mercilessly.

Oyeyemi stated, “Upon the report, the DPO, Ogijo Division, CSP Muhammed Suleiman Baba, quickly led his detectives to the scene and the entire area was thoroughly combed.

“Their efforts yielded positive results when two of the gang members were arrested, while the others escaped with their arms.

“Three golden rings valued at N3,121,700 were recovered from them.”

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

He added that the CP had also directed that the fleeing members of the gang should be hunted and brought to justice.
