UNICEF pledges sustained collaboration with Bauchi Govt

UNICEF Country Representative in Nigeria, Mohamed Malick-Fall has re-assured Bauchi Government of sustained collaboration in the execution of vital projects in the state.
Malick-Fall gave the assurance on Tuesday when he visited Gov. Mohammed Abubakar in Bauchi.
He said the recent death of the Head of UNICEF, Bauchi Field Office, Mr Abdulai Kaikai, which created a gap, would not affect activities between the state and UNICEF, adding that in spirit of the deceased such programmes would progress.
“Having worked very closely with Kaikai, his death is bound to have an impact on your Excellency and the people of the state.
“But I am here to reassure the governor and people of Bauchi State that UNICEF would continue to collaborate with the state on child survival, development and protection issues, despite the gap created by the death of its Bauchi chief of field office.
“Kaikai would have wanted to us to continue where he stopped; and that is what we are going to do.
“The greatest tribute we can pay to him is to continue to support the state government on interventions that improve the lives of children and women,” Malick-Fall said.
The UN official said he would soon visit the state again to meet with the governor to discuss on how best to strengthen the partnership between UNICEF and the state government.
Responding, Gov Abubakar assured that the State Government would equally continue to partner and honour its obligations with UNICEF to make life better for children and women in the state.
“Despite the harsh economic challenges we are facing, we will continue to honour our obligations in our partnership with UNICEF by paying our counterpart funding,” Abubakar said.
He noted that in the last two years he had worked with the late Kaikai, which he described as “a very active person who was very passionate about issues of children and women, and equally dedicated to his duties”.
“The sudden death of the UNICEF official is a big loss to the state as he was not just a staff of UNICEF, but a citizen of Bauchi state, having lived in, and worked for the people of Bauchi,” the governor said.
