UNILORIN don, Kamaldeen Omopupa emerges as new Librarian

An Associate Professor and former Ag. Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Ilorin, Dr Kamaldeen Tunde Omo-Pupa has been appointed as the new University Librarian.

ROYAL NEWS reports that Engr Ramoni Kolawole Amaoo was also named as the Director of Works of the University.

The appointments of the duo were confirmed by the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, streasing that the development was one of the highlights of the meeting of the Governing Council presided over by its Chairman, Mallam Abidu Rafindadi Yazid, OON.

Dr. Omo-Pupa would be taking over as the University Librarian from Prof. Abdulwahab Olarewaju Issa, whose five-year tenure ends in October .

The new Librarian joined the services of the University as an Assistant Lecturer in 2008.

He was born 52 years ago in Ilorin and attended the famous Government High School, Ilorin,from where he received his West African School Certificate in 1987.

Dr. Omo-Pupa is a product of the Bayero University, Kano, from where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science in 1994. For his Master degree in the same discipline, he attended the University of Ibadan and graduated in 2005.He had earlier obtained a Master in Labour and Industrial Relations from the University of Ilorin in 2000.

The incoming number one Librarian of the University of Ilorin capped his academic credentials with a doctorate degree in Library and Information Science from the University of KwaZulu, Natal, South Africa in 2016.

On his part, the incoming Director of Works, Engr Amoo, is a renowned Mechanical Engineer with about four decades experience in various sectors. An indigene of Ede, Osun State, he joined the services of the University of Ilorin as a Principal Mechanical Engineer in 2011.

Born about 60 years ago, the new Director attended the famous Muslim Grammar School, Ede, from where he earned his West African School Certificate in 1981. He proceeded to The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, for his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mechanical Engineering, which he obtained in 1984.

Engr Amoo also received a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 1988.He was also educated at the University of Lagos from where he obtained his Master’s degree in the same discipline in 2008.

This highly experienced engineer, who, prior to his new appointment, was a Deputy Director of Works, University of Ilorin, would be taking over from Engr Mudathir Abisoye, who recently retired from the services of the University.
