The Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Ilorin, Prof. Abdullahi Baba Alafara, has been honoured by The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS), United States of America, in recognition of his “dedicated volunteer service” to the Society.
The two honours were contained in two separate letters signed by the Executive Director of the Society, Prof. James T. Robinson and the President, Dr Brad Boyce. The letters were presented to the Dean at the Society’s 2024 Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida, United States.
While the first one conferred on Prof. Alafara the position of Representative of the Extraction and Processing Division on the TMS’s Education Committee, the second recognised the don as a member of the Education Committee Representative of the Extraction and Processing Division.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, congratulated Prof. Alafara on the two simultaneous achievements from an international organisation.
In a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor said that the University is honoured by the achievements of the Dean, saying that the honours meant more international recognition for the University, as they have also confirmed the institution’s impact on the global community.
While commending Prof. Alafara for making the University proud, Prof. Egbewole urged him to continue to work tirelessly for himself and the University as he enjoined other staff members and students of the University to emulate the industry of the renowned Professor of Industrial Chemistry.
