UNILORIN Lecturer Hospitalised After Serious Beating by Student

A female lecturer at the University of Ilorin‘s Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, Mrs. Zakariyyah, was beaten into a coma on Thursday by a 400-level student.

The student, who has only been identified as Captain Walz, allegedly assaulted the lecturer in her office, causing serious injuries.

Kunle Akogun, the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, confirmed the news in a statement received on Saturday.

The statement which reads in part said, “This is to confirm that Mrs. Zakariyyah is now relatively stable and recuperating after the ugly incident of Thursday where she was attacked by a 400L male student.

“A visit by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Age AbdulKareem in company of the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Oladiji; the Director, University Health Services, Dr. Odunola and a few other staff to the victim and her family this morning, Saturday, 13th September, 201 confirmed that.”

The VC who described the incident as sad and unfortunate that justice shall be done on the matter.

He, however, has ordered proper care of the victim on the bill of the University.

The statement which reads in part said, “This is to confirm that Mrs. Zakariyyah is now relatively stable and recuperating after the ugly incident of Thursday where she was attacked by a 400L male student.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that the student had sought assistance from the assaulted lecturer, who also happens to be his project supervisor, after failing to observed the mandatory Students Industrial Work Scheme (SIWES).

Because his request was not granted, it was gathered that he stormed into the lecturer’s office and began scattering her table, then stepped closer and began hitting her repeatedly.

”The lecturer tried to escape and he kept pursuing her, she ran into an office but Captain Walz broke the window and started punching her hard.”
