UNILORIN rated 3rd best Nigerian university



In a further confirmation of its consistent leadership position at national and international levels, the University of Ilorin has been rated as the 3rd Best University in Nigeria based on the number and quality of scholarly outputs of its staff members in the last three years.

This was contained in a report recently released by Elsevier Scopus, a global publication outfit based in Armsterdam, Netherlands, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN BULLETIN last Tuesday (January 9, 2024).

According to the report, the University has a total of 3,714 scholarly outputs contributed in 2,739 outlets by 500 staff members of the nation’s most sought-after University.

The report added that the contributions of the University has a field weighted citation impact of 1.36 from 25,818 citations.

The publication noted that top 500 authors with scholarly outputs were recorded by the publishing outfit from the University of Ilorin between 2020 and 2023.

It would be recalled that the University of Ilorin was recently named by the New Telegraph newspaper as Nigeria’s “University of Choice” based on its institutional accomplishments and varied contributions put up by several of its staff members and students which collectively stand the University out among its peers.

Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor of the University,Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, said that he was extremely delighted with the rating of the University as one of the best three in Nigeria by Elsevier, which he described as a globally respected authority in publishing.

The Vice Chancellor,in a statement by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, said that the University was yet to achieve its best.
He added that efforts are being intensified to ensure that the University becomes the very best in Nigeria, one of the ten frontline ones in Africa and among the most outstanding 500 universities across the globe.

The Vice Chancellor urged staff members and students of the University to ensure that they prioritise efficient service delivery in the realm of teaching, research and community service for the University to achieve and surpass the expectations of its internal and external stakeholders.

Prof. Egbewole assured members of the University community of the readiness of his administration to always provide an enabling environment that would encourage consistent quality service delivery.
