Unilorin VC Leads Christmas Visits To Promote Unity

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has led a delegation of Muslim principal officers, deans and directors on Christmas Day visits to the homes of their Christian colleagues, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and interfaith harmony.

The annual tradition saw the delegation visit several senior officials, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole; the Director of the Unilorin Renewable Energy Centre, Prof. Peter Oladapo Adeoye; the Director of the Mentorship Centre, Prof. Tanimola Makanjuola Akande; and the Director of the Centre for Gender Studies, Prof. Patricia Folakemi Omojasola, among others.

Speaking during the visits, Prof. Egbewole said the initiative was aimed at sharing the joy of the Christmas season and reinforcing the University’s long-standing culture of mutual respect. “We came to share the joy of the season with you and your family and to appreciate the good work you are doing for the University,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor noted that the University values the contributions of staff regardless of religious affiliation, adding that such interactions strengthen unity and collective responsibility. He encouraged staff to deepen their commitment in the coming year to further enhance the institution’s growth.

Several of the hosts expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as uplifting and symbolic. Prof. Fawole said the visit brought joy to his household and reflected genuine goodwill from the University leadership, while stressing that love and unity remain essential for institutional progress.

Similarly, Prof. Akande described the visit as a rare and memorable experience, while Prof. Omojasola said it was a strong reaffirmation of inclusiveness and shared values within the University community.

Other beneficiaries, including deans and directors, praised the Vice Chancellor’s leadership style, noting that the visits boosted morale and strengthened their resolve to contribute to the University’s development.

Members of the delegation included the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal; the University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa; council members; and other senior officials of the University.
