UNILORIN’s Registrar seeks cordial ARNU, ANUPA relationship
The Registrar of the University of Ilorin and Chairman of the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU), Mr. E. D. Obafemi, has called for greater collaboration between the ARNU and the Association of Nigerian Universities Professional Administrators (ANUPA) to fast track holistic growth of university education in Nigeria.
Mr. Obafemi stated this when he received in his office the new National President of ANUPA, Barrister I. Igwe and the National Training Officer, Mrs. R. A. Okojie.
According to the ARNU Chairman, the university system has so much to benefit from the synergy between ARNU and ANUPA, calling on the leadership of the two bodies to work harmoniously towards ensuring quality education in the country.
Mr. Obafemi, who noted that the University of Ilorin places a high premium on ANUPA’s certificate of training, called on Registrars to support the association by sending their administrators for such trainings.
The Unilorin Registrar underscored the importance the University attaches to training and ANUPA, stressing that the University of Ilorin believes in training and retraining of staff as a way to ensure they constantly perform optimally.
He frowned at the situation where most universities are not committed to the training offered by ANUPA, pleading with Registrars to support ANUPA, which is the training arm of ARNU.
Mr. Obafemi commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), for his support for ANUPA and for consistently approving the training of the University administrators by ANUPA and other training outfits within and outside the country.
The ARNU Chairman congratulated Barr. Igwe on his recent election as ANUPA President, adding that it is a sign that the generality of ANUPA members have confidence in him.
Speaking earlier, the ANUPA National President, Barr. Igwe, explained that the Association is the brainchild of ARNU, conceived and initially managed by university Registrars. He disclosed that over 90 percent of serving Registrars in the country have passed through ANUPA.
Barr. Igwe submitted that the relationship between ANUPA and ARNU has been cordial but called for a greater partnership to make the Nigerian universities compete favourably with universities in advanced countries.
He disclosed that ANUPA had commenced the process to become a chartered association backed by an Act of the parliament, and a secretariat to be soon erected at the Technology Village, Abuja.
The ANUPA President revealed further that the Association was also planning to establish a training institute at the secretariat, suggesting that ANUPA certificate should become a prerequisite for promotion to the post of Deputy Registrar in Nigerian universities.
He pleaded with the ARNU Chairman to encourage other Registrars to send their staff for ANUPA training and support the Association generally.
The President praised the Unilorin chapter of ANUPA, describing them as a strong branch, while also commending the Registrar for consistently sending administrators in the University on training.
In her own remarks, the Chairperson of the Unilorin Branch of ANUPA, Dr. (Mrs.) F. M. Olowoleni, expressed her delight at the discussion and relationship between the two bodies and their leadership, assuring them that the Unilorin branch is firmly behind the associations.
She described the University of Ilorin Registrar as a father figure to the Association, disclosing that a training being organised by the Unilorin Branch would be coming up in April 2017.
