There have been speculations that the former Olori of Ife would be unable to remarry since her marriage to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi crashed.

It would be recalled that on August 30, the former Olori confirmed that her 17 month old marriage crashed. She also went back to using her maiden name Zaynab Otiti Obanor.

Not long after Obanor shared the statement, an Ifa priest in Ife alleged that any man that sleeps with the former Olori would die prematurely.

According to Kemi Ashefon, it seems like the road is now clear for Obanor to remarry any man she wants.

In a post published by Ashefon, it was alleged that Oba Adeyeye has been refunded the customary bride price he paid by the elders of Obanor’s family in Edo state.

It was also reported that the Ooni refused to collect the bride price but he was later persuaded by the elders to receive it and put the controversy to bed.

The Ooni was allegedly quoted as saying: “She’s free now, she’s free.” According to a source, the refund of the bride price was important because it holds a meaningful value in Yoruba tradition.

“When a bride price is returned, the man no longer have ties or right over the woman in question, and they can only see themselves afterwards as friends if they so desire.”

It was also gathered that the families of the Oba and the former Olori are relieved about the final closure of the marriage.

ROYAL NEWS reports that the Ooni of Ife was among the traditional rulers that visited President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.

At the gathering, Ogunwusi said, “From the South-West we thank God for your life and we pledge to support you from our communities because we are closer to our people. We will continue to preach to our people that we should continue to foster peace in our country, we will continue to caution our youths against hate speech.

“We cannot leave the development of the country all to the government but we have to work hand in hand. We assure you that we support all your initiatives.”
