UPDATE…Soun Ogbomoso, indigenes mourn ‘Alagba’ 334yr-old tortoise

Report reaching ROYAL NEWS from the ‘Aginju Ogbomoso’ (ancient palace of Ogbomoso) has revealed that the Soun of Ogbomoso, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, is currently in a sad state of mind over the death of ‘Alagba’ the 334 year-old tortoise that died today (Thursday).
With Alagba’s death, activities in the ancient palace is put on low key at the moment as sympathisers are trooping in to pay their last respect to the late animal often called ‘grandpa’ by children.
It would be recalled that, when ROYAL NEWS Crew visited the palace some years ago, Alagba was diagnosed of swollen-chick and was rushed to the University College Hospital, (UCH) on the instruction of the monarch.
On getting there, it was confirmed that surgery would be carried out on the animal and the person who led the team quickly conveyed the message to Oba Oyewumi who asked for the chances of survival of the tortoise after the surgery.
When he heard that the chances was 50/50, the traditional ruler quickly recalled back the emissaries and asked them to return Alagba back to Ogbomoso.
However, Alagba was until the last minute a great companion of young and old due to its unique history as the oldest Tortoise in Africa.
