VC praises Unilorin, Beninois varsity synergy
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has said that the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University and the University of Abomey-Calavi, Republic of Benin, is “effective and yielding result”.
Prof. Ambali made this remark when he received a delegation of academic and non-academic staff of the University of Abomey-Calavi Republic of Benin, in his office. The Beninois visitors were in Ilorin to attend a training programme organised by the Linguistic Immersion Centre, University of Ilorin.
The Vice-Chancellor submitted that Africans must come together to move the continent forward because they have a lot in common and could easily exchange ideas and technology.
Prof. Ambali thanked the Vice-Chancellor of the Beninois University for sending members of his staff to the University of Ilorin, adding that the University of Abomey-Calavi is a young University with huge potential, to grow.
He assured the delegate that Unilorin would also send a delegation to the University of Abomey-Calavi, Republic of Benin, noting that a sizeable number of students from the Republic of Benin are currently studying at the University of Ilorin.
“Our alumni are doing fine in your country with some working in the presidency and we are very proud of them”, the Vice-Chancellor observed.
In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Prof. Baloitcha Ezinoi, thanked the management of the University of Ilorin for the warm reception they have received since arrival on the campus for the two-week immersion programme.
Prof. Baloitcha said that the University of Ilorin is doing great, disclosing that they had earlier planned to visit Ghana for the programme, but that the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abomey-Calavi directed that they undertake the trip to the University of Ilorin because of the existing MoU between the two institutions.
He thanked the Director and staff of the Unilorin Centre for Linguistic Immersion for helping the group to quickly settle on the campus.
Other members of the delegation were Couthon R. Helen, Gninassou Brigitte, Agossa Gerarol, Leotoichan Moise, Jessika Senou, Vitouley Alexis, Zancran Reine, and Hadonou Belvy.
They were led into the Office of the Vice-Chancellor by the staff of the Centre for Linguistic Immersion that included the Director, Dr. Elizabeth De Campos; Dr. John Atsdu, Mr. Samsou Olusola Olatunji, Yusuf B. Mustapha and Mrs. T. O. Arinde-Semeon.
Joining the Vice-Chancellor to receive the delegation were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. A. Y. Abdulkareem; the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Dada Obafemi; the Deputy Bursar, Mr. O. Dere and the Principal Assistant Registrar in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor; Mr. A. Sayuti.
