We are part of Ilorin Emirate– Asa community debunks establishing traditional council



Afon community has expressed their committment to Ilorin Emirate Council even as they share ancestral, historical and cultural affinities.

The community also urged Governor Abdulraman Abdulrazaq to discountenance call by few individuals from the Local Government Area calling for the establishment of Asa Traditional Council and abolition of District Heads in Asa local Government Area.

This was contained in a statement by the chairman of Afon Community, Alhaji Issa Amosa and General Secretary, Alhaji Idris Ayinla, describing Afon as part of Ilorin Ethnic nationality.

They further said that the governance system adopted by the community even before the advent of colonial masters was Emirate system, noting that the town is neither under any subjugation or hegemony, but under emirate system prevalent in all the northern parts of the country.

The community then enjoined the state Governor to focus more on construction of developmental projects in the area, and shun agitations capable of jeopardizing the prevailing peace in Afon Constituency.

They further described the presence of District Head in Afon District as a symbol of unity, whose presence has not in any way jeopardised the peaceful coexistence among the people of Afon Constituency.

They then promised that the people of Afon would continue to be law abiding, support the programmes and policies of the present administration and promised their unalloyed support to the Emir of Ilorin, His Eminence, Dr Ibrahim Sulu Gambari,whom they described as father of all.
